Spread the love at Glastonbury Festival this year by getting to know your neighbours more. The neighbourhood watch movement is spreading through the family camping area and its one way to help keep your belongings safe and make new friends (which can be so important when you have run out of toilet roll on the morning of day two!).
If you are in the family camping area – you are sure to see officers from Avon and Somerset Constabulary walking around the festival site and handing out the - soon to become cult souvenirs - neighbourhood watch movement flags. With a very handy piece of string attached all you need to do is attach one of these to your tent and go over and introduce yourself to neighbouring campers.
By taking five minutes to know who you will be sleeping near to and agreeing to keep an eye out for each other you can help to stay alert to any potential thieves. And if someone is on the look out for an easy mark they probably wouldn’t choose a cluster of tents plastered with neighbourhood watch flags.
Neighbourhood watch movement tips:
- Baggsy yourself a neighbourhood watch flag from one of our friendly police officers.
- Using the handy piece of string attach the flag to one of your guy ropes or tent poles.
- Introduce yourself to your neighbouring campers so you know the familiar faces and can look out for each other.
- If you spot someone in your neighbourhood of tents that you don’t know or who is acting suspiciously then raise the alarm by letting one of the very helpful festival police officers know.
- Stick all your valuables on a lanyard in your pocket and go enjoy!
