Mum and Dad – What are your kids doing this June?
You’re worried – what will your kids be getting up to? What should you be telling them before they go? The sensible pleas from us would be to make sure they don’t take all their worldly belongings, especially those which are expensive and shiny. If they claim they can’t live without their iPod, mobile phone, digital camera and ridiculously expensive sunglasses for four days, please get them to register them on the Immobilise database – ensuring that if their stuff is lost or stolen and gets recovered by the police, we can reunite them with it. You might also think of reminding them not to walk about with their iPod or phone hanging out of their back pocket, crying out to the pickpocket walking behind them. Clear out the car before they go then all they need to take out and secure is what they put in and what they want during the festival. Should they get in trouble during the festival, either as a victim of crime or an offender you should know that there are lots of police officers on site at the festival. They can come to the police compound to report a crime or even call 999 in an emergency (and this does not count not being able to find the comedy tent or spilling their beer). If they are an offender, then they may find themselves spending a night in the cells, visiting the lesser known stage known as Yeovil Magistrates Court or learning what it’s like on the other side of the big shiny fence. If you have genuine safety concerns about your youngest who you think might be in trouble at the festival, you can call the Avon and Somerset police non-emergency number 0845 456 7000. Above all, we want you and them to have fun and come back in one piece. The vast majority of people do, so relax and await the muddy washing! |
