Police at Glastonbury

A police officer standing in a flooded field at a previous Glastonbury Festival Police officers from Avon and Somerset Constabulary have always had a part in the Glastonbury Festival. They work closely with the festival organisers and the local authority to ensure a safe, crime-free festival.

Crime and disorder, both inside and outside the festival, has massively decreased since the big fence was erected around the festival site every year and police hope 2008 will be no exception.

But what do the police actually do at Glastonbury Festival? Do the officers just wander round looking for people taking drugs and checking out the next band on the main stage?

And where are we? Do we stay in tents or do we have fancy caravans like the stars?

Who is there? As well as the uniformed PCs strolling round the site, there are officers on horseback, officers with dogs, officers with pedal cycles, covert officers looking like your average hippie and everything else from officers manning jail cells to the police helicopter hovering up in the sky.
